Less than an hour from the majestic Montignano Castle Relais & Spa, to reach Todi, Terni, Spoleto, Perugia, Foligno, Assisi and Rome.
A really favourable position in the heart of green Umbria, surrounded by the evocative atmosphere of places that are rich in history and that have seen an interweaving of tumultuous political events together with peaceful and sanctifying events. As a matter of fact, these date back to the Late Middle Ages, even before the thousand-year origins of the castle, given, together with part of Umbria and the entire county, to Count Arnolfo, a German, courtier and family member of Emperor Ottone I of Sassonia who was crowned Emperor of Germany and King of Italy at the time in Milan, by Pope Giovanni XII.
In the secrets of the castle is the “Acqua Degna” SPA which takes its name from Saint Degna, protector of Todi who, at the beginning of Christianity, found peace and beatitudine of the spirit at Montignano. In the spa, it is possible to have a Roman renewing treatment in the waters of the Thermarium where, in an ancient tub for water collection there is now a large hydro-massage swimming pool.
Then you can go on to the Tepidarium (warm bath), where staying in an area at a temperature of 37º favours the following passage to the warmer area, the Calidarium (hot bath). And then into the Frigidarium (cold bath), where the body temperature is brought back to normality so that you can enjoy the full effects of this treatment. In the warm months, guests are invited to relax with bathing in the outdoor swimming pool surrounded by the tranquility of the park, among ancient olive trees and fruit trees.
You can choose from the sumptuous residence created out of the ancient vaults and the elegant suites that blend the original furnishings of the castle with modern refined design.
To unite the pleasure of the spirit with that of the palate, you have the possibility of choosing a light lunch if you are following a wellness programme or savouring items from the menu which are based on organic products and served in their sought-after buffet, sipping vintage wines or whetting your appetite with delightful aperitifs in the “Materia Prima” wine bar.
