An ancient converted Camaldo abbey, Hotel Monteconero is situated on the summit of the Conero promontory, 550m high. At the centre of the Regional Park with the same name, it is in an enchanting position with views over the Adriatic Sea and the rolling Marche hills.

Hotel Monteconero dates back to 1038 and was given to an abbot by the Counts Cortesi di Sirolo for the building of a monastery. The importance of the building grew with passing centuries and at the end of the 17th century it was surrounded by a defence wall and appears to have been divided into two areas: the southern area including the hermitage ‘cell’ quarters and the guest-rooms, while the other area to the north comprised the church and other buildings.

In 1932, it was acquired by the Melappioni family who transformed the building complex into a refined hotel, ideal for naturalistic walks in the Conero Park and for practising golf. Facilities also available are a swimming pool, tennis court and children’s play area.

The Merlin Cocai restaurant has had particular attention paid to it – a light and refined environment with food and wines from the region, and, having a belvedere terrace and garden, is excellent for meetings, receptions and banquets.
