“Château de Rochegude” is an authentic 12th century castle strategically situated in the heart of the Drôme district in northern Provence, atop a hill not far away from the charming town of Orange. Amidst 25 acres of parkland overlooking the exceptional ‘Côtes du Rhône’ or ‘Shores of Rhône’ Valley with its splendid vineyards, the manor is set in a region of great viticultural and gastronomic prestige.
It was none other than the ancient Greeks who brought the first grape-vines to this region, hence Côtes-du-Rhône’s legitimate claim to the origins of the first French vintages, the very beginning of the glorious wine-growing tradition, for which France is renowned all over the world.
The Romans followed and continued cultivation for the grapes’ medicinal properties and later Christian monks and the Templars continued the tradition with great zeal, inaugurating the first ‘Côtes du Rhône’ appellation in the 12th century, when this great castle saw its humble beginnings.
Today, the Château is a living tribute that literally defines the essence of divine French heritage and hospitality.
