Castello Romeo |
castle -
Via Montelaguardia 15 - 95036 Randazzo Etna (CT) - Location map |
Sited overlooking the territory of the Alcantara region, it guards the river of the same name from a natural terrace, having the majestic volcano Etna behind it.
The castle entrance is through a large wrought-iron gate, on the SS120 road, and is reached by means of a 500 metre long avenue which is crossed halfway by the Circumetnea light-guage railway and is surrounded by dry lava-stone walls.
The further you go down this long straight road, the more scenic and noteworthy it becomes. The avenue opens up into a large space in front of the complex of buildings which is the car park today.
The simplicity of its lines, the architectonic symmetry and the colourful contrast between the rose-coloured plasterwork, the black basalt stone and the white profile with the green of the woods, are all elements which strike the visitor at first sight.
From the impressive gateway in ‘conci’ lava stone, to the lowered gothic arch, mounted by sculptured ‘merlatura’ on a ledge, you pass to the inside courtyard, at the centre of which is the main building with its tower.
In the internal courtyard, there are the bedrooms, the reading room, the bar and the two restaurants, while in the central part, there are the suites, the reception rooms on the first floor and a wine merchant’s shop and recreational rooms on the ground floor.
At the castle, it is possible to enjoy tasting the local typical Sicilian recipes of times gone by, and there is the possibility of not only staying and sleeping in the castle but also the possibility, for those who love nature, of going on horse-riding excursions or walking excursions in the three parks.
It is also possible to use the large spaces available for banquets, such as weddings, birthdays and other festivities.
