“Hôtel du Palais”, a joyous, history-laden palace majestically poised on a sandy hill in the elegant seaside village of Biarritz, between the Basque and Gascony regions, overlooks the entire beautiful coastal landscape.

The monumental Palace was originally known as ‘Villa Eugénie’, the stupendous summer residence of Napoléon III’s wife, Eugénie de Montijo. With a wave of her imperial wand the manor was commissioned in the style of the era, Second Empire, during which Biarritz sealed its reputation as “Queen of Beaches and the Beach of Kings”.

Truly a storybook setting, complete with horse-drawn carriages, colourful parasols, crisp crinolines and stately top hats of high society, over the years, the palace and hotel would indeed see its fair share of distinguished guests, from Louis Bonaparte to Victor Hugo, Cocteau to Hemingway, the Duke and Duchess of Windsor to Gary Cooper and Frank Sinatra and many other notable figures of eras past.
