Ruthin Castle, the "Red Fort", is one of the oldest and most romantic castles in Wales and has a rich royal heritage. It dates from before 1277 and dominates the historic Welsh market town of Ruthin, close to the walled city of Chester and within easy reach of the beautiful North Wales Coast, Snowdonia and picturesque Betws-y-Coed.

The castle formed part of the Crown Estate until sold by Charles I in 1632 and sits in its ancient walled dry moat within acres of private landscaped gardens, parkland and woods alongside the River Clwyd, in a designated "Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty", where guests are never far from a pretty walk or a magnificent view.
The castle has a centuries-old tradition of providing hospitality and comfort and also hosted numerous Royal guests in the sumptuous Royal Salons and notably in the dramatic 'Prince of Wales' honeymoon bedroom, named after Edward, Prince of Wales, who frequently visited the manor, and HRH Prince Charles who stayed en route to his Investiture.

Many of the 62 rooms have four-poster beds, beautifully carved fireplaces and antique pieces of furniture. Oil paintings and sparkling crystal chandeliers adorn Inner Hallway, Grand Salon, bars and lounges – warm and cosy despite their scale.
