Close to the majestic peaks of the Madonie Natural Park, the Masseria Susafa is in the centre of agricultural Sicily, surrounded by fields which produce, and have produced since Roman Empire times, the best grain in Europe. Staying here is like travelling back in time, going back to a distant era, coming into contact with the genuine soul of Sicily, with its traditions, nature, history and legends.

The warm and welcoming bedrooms have been created out of the farmhouses which, about mid-1900, were created as lodgings for farm labourers. Yet even a hundred years previously, the great grandfather of the current proprietor, had bought the estate which was much larger than today (about 1,300 hectares) and in the 19th century, the ‘masseria’ farm estate of the Saeli family became one of the most important Madonie agricultural farms, testimony being the imposing farm buildings which stand out like giants among the surrounding land, at altitudes of 560 to 960 metres above sea level.

Today, the bedrooms give you a comfortable stay without renouncing the quality of the hotel, maintaining the taste of rural Sicilian house with wooden-beam ceilings, terracotta floors and traditional plasterwork. One of the ancient animal sheds is now a large lounge dedicated to relaxation, with a library, TV area and games table, while the restaurant, holding up to 200 people, and ideal for ceremonies, meetings and also a simple dinner among friends, has been created out of the ancient granary building.

The carefully renovated stone walls and gothic arches and the great fireplace all give it a unique atmosphere, almost magical, making it an evocative setting for the tasty recipes from Madonie tradition.
