The Locanda di San Martino, situated I the centre of Matera, offers the possibility of living a unique and rare experience: you can sleep in a ‘grotto-house’ which has not changed for thousands of years, but at the same time has all the comforts of modern life.
The ‘grotto-rooms’ are on 4 levels and are connected by fascinating underground passages excavated in the rock, by internal steps and (for those who do not want to renounce technology) by lifts. A fully equipped conference room is available for small conferences, seminars and shows.
The Locanda San Martino is specially adapted for study holidays, having qualified staff to assist university professors and researchers with itineraries for Matera and its surroundings for the following areas: archaeology, architecture, anthropology, history of art, history and fine arts
