Situated between the Northern Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and The Hadrian's Wall World Heritage Site, Farlam Hall is the perfect location for a relaxing holiday. The elegant Victorian manor house is set in 12 acres of gardens and paddocks and sheltered by ancient trees. It was extended twice in the 1800's from the original four room fortified farm house to the size it is today.

The Thompson family who lived here designed it for a large family to live and entertain in and in many ways it is still being used for the same purpose. Today there are 12 luxurious ensuite bedrooms and a restaurant that can seat about 40 people. Farlam is the perfect place to escape from the real world and enjoy the elegance of a past era combined with the best of modern life, as well as a style of hotel keeping that is becoming a rarity: a genuine family team working with enthusiastic local people who are
all here to make your stay as relaxed and pleasurable as possible.

Downstairs there are two large drawing rooms with open fires, comfortable seating, and fine drinks which may also be served in the garden or in your room. Light lunches are always available for residents and for dinner a daily changing menu is offered in the huge, bright dining room overlooking the garden and ornamental lake. The style of food is modern English Country House which combines a light and balanced touch with traditional values and skills that are being lost to fashion.

All this set in the precious, unspoilt North Cumbria surroundings, with three great golf courses in the vicinity, one of them near splendid Carlisle Castle, and of course the now iconic Hadrians Wall Path. Most outdoor pursuits are well catered for and when you tire of activity there is an excellent range of country houses and museums as well as a wide variety of shopping from antiques to cashmere.
