Pozzallo is the only town in the Ragusa area which borders the sea with long magnificent sandy beaches. Called “The Terrace City on the Mediterranean”, Pozzallo has been awarded the Blue Flag for the last three years – a recognition also given to Menfi, Marsala and Portorosa tourist development in Sicily. Besides being the only seaside town in the Ragusa area, Pozzallo is the southernmost town in Italy, after Lampedusa and Linosa, and is the “Mediterranean gateway” for Malta and the nearby coast of Africa.
This area was inhabited in ancient times as discovered by the finding of Roman coins dating from 72 to 250 A.D. In that period, the sailing ships called to stock up with water from various wells along the coast and the name Pozzallo means “well at sea”. In the period of Arab domination too, Pozzallo was a stopping point of refuge for the galley ships equipped to launch fireballs against enemy ships.

From Palermo: A19 to Catania
From Catania: Via the Syracuse (Siracusa) exit Cassibile, following the SS114 road for Ragusa, passing outside Avola, Noto, Rosolini, Ispica. After Ispica, follow signs for Pozzallo, taking the ring road just before Pozzallo in the direction of Sampieri, taking the Pozzallo-Nord exit in the direction of Modica S.p.45 at 5.1kms.
From Catania: Via the Ragusa 194 ‘Superstrada’ in the direction of Ragusa, then continue towards Pozzallo city centre, taking the ring road (‘circumvallazione’) in the direction of Siracusa with exit at Pozzallo Nord (being careful not to take the exit after which goes to the industrial area (‘zona industriale’).
