Nothing can surpass the exquisite beauty of the countryside near Siena: it is breathtaking. If you meander into the hilltowns of Tuscany any time of the year, all your senses are rewarded with the splendors that this enchanting area of Italy has to offer. Tucked into the colorful villages is a treasure-trove of some of the finest small hotels in all the world. If this is not sufficient to tempt you away from the normal tourist route, be reminded that the food and wines of Tuscany are unsurpassed.
Within 20/30 min. drive you find:
Montalcino stands on the top of a very tall hill that overlooks the valleys of the Ombrone and the Asso rivers. It is famous to have resisted many sieges through the centuries and, of course, for its celebrated Brunello. The artiscic masterpiece of this area if the Benedectine abbey of S. Antimo, one of the most romantic expression of the reagion situated in the beauty of and enchanted surroundings, very pictoresque at night when is illuminated.
Montepulciano, a jewel of renaissance between the valleys of Orcia and Chiana, is surrounded by gentler landscape compered wuth the clays of Val d'Orcia and is rich of monuments and churches founded mainly during the 16th century. Architects such as Vignola, Antonio da Sangallo, and Baldassarre Peruzzi drafted Montepulciano's actual look. The Vino Nobile di Montepulciano along with Brunello is one of the greatest Tuscan wines.
How to reach Lucignanello Bandini
From ROME
Take the A1 towards Florence.
Exit at Valdichiana. Immediately left is the toll.
Turn right and take the second road on your right again.
You will be on the freeway BETTOLLE - SINALUNGA.
Exit at SINALUNGA.
Go artound the village without actually entering it.
Follow sign to ASCIANO-TREQUANDA.
You will see TRQUANDA Castle in front of you.
Pass by and go towards MONTISI.
Pass under the castle of this village and follow the sign SAN GIOVANNI d'ASSO.
When you are just at the foot of this castle, you will see a stop sign.
Turn left and drive for approx. 2 km direction TORRENIERI-MONTALCINO.
You will notice on the left side the sign "LUCIGNANO d'ASSO".
Take this country road that comes up, up to the very top of the hill which you will recognise (you will see a long low house and there are two arches in the middle and a sign to your right and you will see the sign LUCIGNANO d'ASSO. You will also see the sign "P" for parking at the square.
Walk towards the Palace where below the big arch with cote of arms you will see the bell.
From Northern Italy, Florence or Pisa airport
If you are coming from the center Florence go to Porta Romana and then proceed to Firenze Certosa.
If you are driving through the motorway exit directly at Firenze Certosa and take the free way Florence-Siena.
Exit at Siena Sud (South) and take the Cassia road towards Rome. Through this old Roman road you will pass many small villages but when you reach Torrenieri follow the sign to S. Giovanni d'Asso.
After about 5 km there is a small sign indicating Lucignano d'Asso on the right. You take this small white road up the hill, up to the very top of the hill where you will see a long low house, turn right and you will se an arch in the middle and a sign to your right: LUCIGNANO d'ASSO. You will also see the sign "P" for parking your car once downloaded your luggages. Our reception is on the loggia just under the arch.
