Villa Irlanda Grand Hotel is an ideal launching point for any number of excursions given it’s convenient positioning so close to both the roads and railway systems that connect Rome and Naples (both of which can be reached within an hour or so by car). The ferries for Ponza and Ventotene are at five minutes car drive from the hotel.
Pompei; Naples; Caserta; the Abbey at Monte Cassino; Sperlonga; the Abbey at Fossanova; the Gardens at Ninfa; the Natural Parks of Gianola, Circeo and Monte Orlando; the isles of Capri, Ischia, Ponza, Ventotene are all easily reachable from the hotel both by car or by public transport. Not to mention the numerous organised tours which our staff will be happy to inform you of. For those that prefer not to roam too far afield, one may stroll along the wonderful promenade of Gaeta; amongst the alleys and ancient buildings of the old city or amidst the natural beauty offered by the National Park of Monte Orlando and the famous ‘Montagna Spaccata’ (split mountain).
The legends of the fissure and almost unexplainable ‘handprint’ melted into the unyielding rock tells a tale of the moment of Christ’s death upon the cross. Visitors are captivated by the mystery surrounding the mountain and by the unique rumours of the sea as it strikes against the rock and cliff-face.
How to reach us:
>From the Formia's station, on the coast line Rome-Naples, there is a bus
service every 20 minutes for Gaeta or you find a more comfortable taxi
service. The hotel is at the beginning of Gaeta and to be distant from the
station less than ten minutes.
- For arrives by car:
Escape Cassino of the A1 Rome-Naples continuing for Formia-Gaeta, the hotel
is on your rught at the beginning of Gaeta. In alternative, from Rome follow
the Pontina until Gaeta and continuing towards Formia; the hotel is at the
end of Gaeta on your left.
- For who arrives by airplane:
The most comfortable airports are Naples and Rome, continue for Formia-Gaeta
in train or car.
