San Giorgio Castle is an ancient residence on a mount which dominates the town and looks out on the splendid sight of the gentle slopes of Monferrrato and its vineyards.
Built in the 10th century, the Castle, once residence of Gonzaga in 1629, passed to the Savoys in 1703. Elements which still characterise it today are the 17th century staircase, the solid clock tower, the medieval walls and the ‘ronda’ fireplaces.
Now property of the Crotti family, the Castle hosts an art gallery and an antiques gallery and, after knowledgeable renovation of the ancient 17th century guest quarters in the Castle’s park, the result is an elegant and welcoming Relais.
The bedrooms all have names of flowers and have colourful furnishings and fabrics inside. The refined atmosphere of the surroundings and the cuisine of the nearby restaurant, “Castello di San Giorgio’ will make you appreciate the warm welcome and the simplicity of the past, joined with the authentic tastes and flavours of genuine Monferrato tradition.
