“Château de Garrevaques”, lulled by the bucolic valley of Sor, rests majestically amidst the rich foliage and rolling fields of sunflowers.
It was built as a fortress in the 15th century, with four imposing jutting towers, a canal-tiled roof and a walled moat encircling the entire structure. Following long periods of great unrest and religious wars, the Château was ceded to the first generation of the Gineste family, whose now 16th generation still resides in and runs the castle hotel.
Three of its original towers withstood the damage and destruction brought on by the French Revolution and the castle was lovingly rebuilt in the early 1800’s in a time of relative peace.
The three towers were carefully refurbished and wonderful living accommodations were established, with such fine details as wall coverings by Dufour, Leroy and Zuber in its formal sitting rooms, as well as the addition of warm central air and a solid slate roof, exactly as you find it today.
Guestrooms still exhibit fine family heirlooms and striking reproductions from Revel for which the town is renowned.
