OldNoar Maisons de Charme is an old restored stone house of the nineteenth century, which stands in front of an ancient water mill still working in the old medieval village of Novara di Sicilia, a hillside village which lies between the Nebrodi and Peloritani, that is only 30 minutes from the Tyrrhenian Sea, Marinello and Tindari, facing the Aeolian Islands, and just 45 minutes from the Ionian coast of Taormina-Giardini Naxos.
The ancient village of Novara di Sicilia is part of the "most beautiful villages in Italy", and has its roots in the heart of the Middle Ages, with a long history linked to the Arabs, the Normans, and the Cistercians, in fact, near the village are the ruins of the former Cistercian monastery of Sicily, whose foundation dates back to 1137. The village is really unique alternating ancient alleys, steps and corners of rare scenic beauty, where you can still feel the authenticity of the ancient countries once and true Sicilian life, where time seems to stand still, thus creating a unique place where you can completely retreat.
OldNoar Maisons de Charme is a fully independent private house, situated in one of the historic districts of Novara of Sicily, San Michele, and can accommodate up to 5 persons consisting of four levels:
- ground floor, main entrance hall and living room with sofa bed;
- In the basement, kitchen, bathroom and back door leading directly to the outside space fully equipped for breakfast, lunch and dinner with table and chairs, from here you can access the garden where there are fruit trees, area relax with panoramic views of Tindari and the Aeolian Islands (north) and the rocks and Salvatesta and Leone (south);
-at the first floor, study with desk, bedroom (double bed or twin beds) with a window overlooking the garden of the house;
-at the second floor, the master bedroom with balcony overlooking the garden / sea and mountains, living area and bathroom with shower panoramic view of the sky.
The large garden extends over 4 terraces:
- two levels are characterized by a very green lawn;
- the Cistercians Garden with medicinal plants, pergola with grapes and relax area
- mediterranean garden with ornamental plants, hammock and sunbeds
The house was completely restored in 2015 by the famous French architect in love with the typical architecture of the town of Novara of Sicily, using bio ecological materials such as plaster and enamels water, woods of beech and chestnut, local sandstone, fabrics like curtains and carpets, cotton and linen Sicilian ancient workmanship. All the furniture has been studied in detail, a perfect marriage between the ancient, the modern design and the charm thus creating a cozy and relaxing.
On request and on reservation, it is possible to have breakfast in the garden during the summer season, organized by a pastry shop in the town.
In Novara of Sicily during the year there are various religious and cultural events related to the traditions of the local food and wine festivals as Hazel, the famous local cheese "Maiorchino" and the religious festival of the Virgin Mary on August 15.
From here you can reach many places and archaeological and natural sites as the Argimusco valley, the Sicilian-Greek necropolis of Tripi, shelter prehistoric site of Sperlinga and Malabotta wood. Here on advance booking and on request is possible to organize guided tours and visits with experts guide.
The nearby main tourist destinations such as Syracuse, Taormina, Giardini Naxos, Piazza Armerina, Agrigento, Catania, Etna, the Aeolian Islands and Palermo can be reached by car easily from Novara di Sicilia.

His Opinion: Our family of four, with two daughters of 9 and 7, had the most pleasant stay at OldNoar. The house was renovated a few months ago, with very good taste. The pictures speak for themselves. The shower has excellent pressure and the hot water is abundant. The sheets are not "industrial", they are uniquely hand made. The view from our master bedroom was gourgeous, with the imposing view of Rocca Salvatesta above us, a stunningly beautiful rock that dominates the town of Novara di Sicilia. The kids room was also very nicely decorated, with a heavenly smell of fresh lavander that comes from the herbs garden. There is also a room with a couch and TV and a fully equipped kitchen, with a second restroom. A washing machine is conveniently located there, for those who opt for a longer stay. We were given plenty of fresh towels for our three days stay. Andrea graciously welcomed us and made some home made orange, kiwi and lemon jams available for us, along with a bottle of mineral water and fresh lemons, that we had for breakfast. Oil, vinegar, salt, sugar and other basics were available. Yes, the breakfast was one of the moment we enjoyed most: in the pictures you can see what I am talking about. There are three terraces at different levels, with grass, and above those there is an outdoor space where we had our breakfast, enjoying the views and the peace of the garden. Beyond the garden there is a mill, still functioning thanks to the water that flows in a stream at the bottom of the valley where the house is located, and the visit to the mill alone was worth the trip (see different review). From the terrace you can enjoy views of the island of Salina. In the garden Andrea grows some vegetables that we were welcome to pick and taste, along with several herbs, from citronella to basil to mint, and many others.
Andrea was instrumental in giving us top quality advices. The visit to Argimusco, the Sicilian Stonehenge, was above our expectations, and hiking in the Bosco di Malabotta, with the views of Etna and of the Ionian sea, was another peak of our stay. Andrea himself is a scientist at the University of Catania, with very high communication skills. His field of interest is Astrophysic and he has posted some excellent videos on youtube on the Argimusco area. The town of Novara deserves its reputation as one of the "most beautiful small towns in Italy", and we loved strolling in its narrow streets and visiting his several churches. In conclusions, we felt very lucky to stay here and we would definitely return!

His Opinion: We enjoyed every minute of our stay. The house is in excellent condition and has a very pleasant atmosphere. A quiet beautifull garden where you can eat, or relax. From the garden one can see Tindary and the sea (+/- 30 minutes drive). Shops are on walking distance and the locals are friendly. So is the host. We received a warm welcome, the house and garden were shown to us with pride. This is thé place to be if you want to live among the locals in a typical Sicilian village.

His Opinion: überhaus herzliche Hosts (wir wurden mit allem was ein Morgenessen benötigt versorgt), alles tiptop, sauber. güntig. Tolles Haus, alt-modern gut gemixt
für Sizilien-Erkundungen muss man jedoch viel Autofahren, Restaurants etc nicht in der Nähe.
Fazit:
- für selbstversorgende Erholungsfans, welche einfach "nur sein wollen", perfekt !!
