Valcastello Polo Club
Valcastello Polo Club is an elegant 19th century Boutique Resort located between San Candido and Dobbiaco in the South Tyrol of Northern Italy, close to the elegant alpine resort of Cortina, Brunico and the Austrian border.
Built on the ruins of an ancient castle, this charming property is located in a private property of 5 hectares that flanks the green woods of Alta Pusteria and offers magnificent views of the famous mountain range of the Dolomites.
With its breathtaking panoramic view "Imperial" on the Sexten Dolomites, the area has long been frequented by members of the European aristocracy, including The Hapsburgs.
The most famous is the Austrian princess Sissi, long resident in the town of Dobbiaco, attracted by the purity of its alpine air and the healing waters "mineral waters of the Emperor" issued at the foot of the mountains.
King Vittorio Emanuele III and Umberto I of Italy stayed in Valcastello, in what is now the King's Suite when the Countess d'Acquarone family hosted their royal hunting parties.
The Sesto Dolomites mountain range is now UNESCO World Natural Heritage.
Valcastello among the go services also offers permanent water polo club in the Italian Alps, private tennis court and easy access to the ski slopes and the alpine path.
Valcastello Polo Club has six sumptuous suites spread over three floors. Each suite has been individually furnished with beautiful handmade tapestries, hunting trophies, antique wooden furniture, original oil paintings, chandeliers and precious draperies.
All meals are served in the magnificent dining room with breathtaking views of the Dolomites. The large wall tapestries and high windows of the Aubusson room offer a fairytale alpine setting for a memorable formal dinner or a special event in the trophy room.
The Valcastello Polo Club is the only permanent resort in the Italian Alps where polo players and other guests can play "Snow Polo" throughout the winter. Snow Polo tournaments and chukkers run from December to March and the summer pole, from June to August.
The property has a beautiful polo field for all seasons and a stable of exceptional polo ponies, managed by the stable manager of Valcastello Polo Club. The professional basketball court for basketball, grass / water polo measures 110 meters x 60 meters.
