Castello di Velona – Tuscan Resort & Spa, picturesque medieval fortress of the 11th century, and in that period being the place of great battles between the Republics of Siena and Florence, was successively transformed into an aristocratic renaissance villa, conserving its original fascinating characteristics, such as the splendid courtyard with balconies.

From its panoramic hill, the Castle dominates the suggestive countryside of Val d’Orcia, threaded with little villages and vineyards and of great historic-artistic importance, as confirmed by the Etruscan artefacts, now housed in the Montalcino museum, which were found in this area which has an ancient Etruscan-Roman road dating back to the 1st century B.C. Not far away, there are also traces of the old Francigena way which was travelled on by innumerable and illustrious writers, artists, famous bandits and pilgrims.

Inside the ancient walls of the converted “Castello di Velona”, this fascinating history unites with modern comforts, welcoming and refined surroundings: The suites and bedrooms, each different from the other, are elegantly furnished with period furniture, antiques, high-quality fabrics and hand-made decorations and paintings.

For enthusiasts of good cuisine, this aristocratic country residence offers the genuine flavours and tastes of typical Tuscan dishes, served on the magnificent terrace among olive and cypress trees or in front of the fireplace of the refined dining room, and, naturally, accompanied by an excellent Brunello di Montalcino, produced by the Velona farm vineyard adjacent to the castle.

In 2011, after 3 years of accurate renovations, the Castello di Velona - Tuscan Resort & SPA finally reopens, with its 46 new rooms and suites, the 1500 m2 large thermal wellness centre and its amazing restaurant with panoramic terrace: a place full of relax, wellbeing, art, excellent cuisine and history.
