The Castello di Montegufoni, managed by PosarelliVillas, is a magnificent historic residence with origins dating back to the 11th–12th century, located in the heart of the Chianti wine region, in Montespertoli, just 30 minutes from Florence. Restructured in the 17th century by the noble Acciaioli family with a tower inspired by Florence’s Palazzo Vecchio, the castle has an illustrious past: during World War II, it stored the masterpieces of the Uffizi Gallery. Today, it is an exclusive resort that offers a unique experience, nestled among vineyards and olive groves.
The complex, which includes the main palace and several annexes, is divided into approximately 39 apartments and suites of various sizes (from 1 to 4 bedrooms), ideal for couples, families, or groups. Each accommodation is furnished in rustic Tuscan style and includes essential comforts, such as an equipped kitchenette, heating, and Wi-Fi. Guests can enjoy an independent holiday while benefiting from the castle’s services. Extra services such as housekeeping, cots, and extra beds are available for a fee.
To savor the local gastronomic tradition, the Castle hosts “Il Ristorantino” (seasonal opening, closed on Tuesdays), which offers a typical Tuscan menu with dishes prepared using the best local and organic products. An excellent selection of Chianti and regional wines is available. On the panoramic terrace adjacent to the restaurant is a Bar (seasonal opening) offering coffee, drinks, and the evening "Aperitivo Time," with a spectacular view of the Tuscan hills.
Guests can relax in the large outdoor pool (open seasonally) with sunbeds and umbrellas, nestled within the castle’s vast terraced park. Thanks to its majestic spaces, such as the Banqueting Hall and historic gardens, Montegufoni is a renowned location for organizing weddings, receptions, and conferences. Amenities include ample free private parking, Wi-Fi, and a shared laundry facility.
The castle’s location is ideal for exploring Tuscany: it is near Montespertoli and only 20 km from Florence. It is a perfect starting point for reaching art cities like Siena, San Gimignano, Pisa, and Arezzo. Nearby, guests can enjoy activities such as golf, horseback riding, and cycling (bike rental available), exploring the picturesque paths among the vineyards and olive groves of Chianti.

His Opinion: Bonjour,

His Opinion: A delightful week-long stay at Castello Montegufoni ended too soon for us. Our apartment (Montegufoni 7) was perfect for us. It was spacious, comfortable, had lovely views of the garden and the tuscan countryside. The staff were helpful at every turn.

His Opinion: Positive: We used this location as our home-base while driving and exploring the Tuscan countryside - excellent location for this. Grocery stores and small restaurants in nearby towns - easy access. Castle was beautiful and clean; staff spoke English very well; gorgeous views; very special place. Wish we had more time to relax and enjoy the beautiful property.
Negative: bed was too hard so we layered the spare blankets under the sheet to give some extra padding.
Room: Il Guardiano - good location for those with limited mobility - right off the main reception area. Some noise from those using the reception hall for internet access, but we got free Wi-Fi in our room because we were so close and you can't hear the reception area from the bedroom so it was fine for us. The windows look into the courtyard so people walking through can see into your room so we kept the curtains closed most of the time.
