“Château de Rochecotte” is quite simply an extraordinary monument to the rich architectural heritage of France’s spectacular Loire Valley, an absolute haven of peace and tranquillity in the suggestive heart of its 20 acres of superb woodlands and fine landscaped gardens, with its marvellous Italian terrace, genuine pergola and extensive stables dating back to the 18th century, later to be listed as a historic French monument.
The Castle, a former 16th century fort, rests majestically on a hill from which it once dominated the village of St. Patrice, appropriately named ‘rock from the hill’.
Designed in Empire style, the grand Château was originally owned by the ‘Guillon de Rochecotte’ family and eventually became property of the Prince of Talleyrand who purchased it for his niece, the Duchess of Dino, who in turn would fondly refurbish the mansion into an elegant, lively Italian villa, with many important improvements and extensions, and a refined collection of paintings, portraits, chandeliers, tapestries and valuable furniture.
Nowadays, the Château is a luxurious castle hotel that still preserves that ‘Art de Vivre’ and nobility of spirit.
